He overcame lies and shame: The touching fate of the great sociologist Dirk Kaesler

The important and influential melancholic among German philosophers, Arthur Schopenhauer, described the inevitable consequence of our lives as follows: “Fate shuffles the cards and we play.” Yes, no one can escape fate, but by accepting it, we can actively participate in shaping it.
This hope of my own action was in my mind when I met him at my home for a long conversation. Professor Dirk Kaesler (80), who caused a sensation with his biography of the co-founder of German sociology , Max Weber, stood at my doorstep.
