Readings, concerts and free shows are still taking place this summer in the Alpes-Maritimes, here is the program

As summer settles in on the Côte d'Azur, the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council unveiled this Friday evening at the Asian Arts Museum in Nice a rich and eclectic summer cultural program, combining readings, concerts, shows and activities for all.

The traditional Festival of Words is back, from July 11 to August 9. This new edition invites you to a literary stroll around the theme "Along the water and the oceans".

Ten renowned actors, including Thibault de Montalembert, Alice Taglioni, Guillaume de Tonquédec, Nicole Garcia and Guillaume Gallienne, will give voice to emblematic texts, from Shakespeare's Macbeth to Herman Melville's Moby-Dick , including Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan and Le buveur de Brume by Guillaume Gallienne, which he will read on July 31 at the Château des Terrasses, in Cap-d'Ail.

Free readings of great works by renowned speakers will be held in nine municipalities across the department. The goal? To celebrate the connection between man and nature.

A particular resonance in this year marked by the United Nations Ocean Conference, which was held in Nice from June 9 to 13.

The Summer Evenings celebrate their 30th anniversary

From June 27 to August 31, the Soirées Estivales celebrate their thirtieth anniversary with more than 450 free shows organized in more than 150 towns in the department.

This Friday evening, during the unveiling of the Department's summer cultural program, the initiator of these evenings, the former vice-president of the Departmental Council Alain Frère, blew out the candles on a cake celebrating their 30th anniversary.

"It's an honor and a joy for me to see that, for 30 years, the Summer Evenings have continued to bring together thousands of artists and spectators. Culture is so important; it's what keeps us alive."

For two months, the Alpes-Maritimes are transformed into an open-air stage, welcoming more than 200 local companies and groups.

On the program: jazz, theater, comedy, circus, and world music. Among the events not to be missed are concerts by the group The Low Budget Men, who have already performed on stage at the Nice Jazz Festival (now Nice Jazz Fest) and as opening acts for Selah Sue and Sinclair, to be seen on July 10 in Sainte-Agnès, on July 23 in Spéracèdes, or in Bonson on August 2.

New features include a tribute to Mike Brant to be seen in Valdeblore on June 27 and in Puget-Théniers on July 23, the lyrical and accessible adaptation of Le Barbier de Nice , in Gattières on July 16 and in Villefranche-sur-Mer on July 25, and Super héros , a show performed by a duo of circus and magic artists, to be seen in Rouret on July 8 and in Cipières on August 11.

Jazzy nights by the sea with Jazz Art Lympia

On the rooftop terrace of Espace Lympia in Nice, Jazz Art Lympia is offering, for its seventh edition, seven free concerts on Thursday evenings from July 17 to August 28.

Combining bossa nova, swing, and jazz fusion, groups like Manu le Prince (July 17) and the Leila McAvoy Quartet (August 14) will rock the port of Nice at sunset. It's an opportunity to discover emerging talents and big names in an enchanting setting.

Picnic and conviviality at the Folies des Lacs

On July 20, the shores of Lake Colmiane, in the heart of Mercantour, will host Les Folies des Lacs , a festive and musical day centered around the Frenchy picnic.

On the menu: a live performance by Nicoline, a singer from Biot who appeared on The Voice in 2023, a DJ set, and family entertainment. From blind tests to pétanque games, including inflatable structures and wooden games...

Free shows and events. Full program (Festival of Words, Summer Evenings, Jazz Art Lympia and Folies des Lacs) at soirees-estivales.departement06.fr
