Al Di Meola in concert on Vesuvius for the XXX edition of Pomigliano Jazz

The summit of the most famous volcano in the world becomes the stage for the exclusive performance of Al Di Meola at the XXX edition of the Pomigliano Jazz festival . The American guitarist, composer and producer is the great protagonist of the sunset concert on the crater of Vesuvius , scheduled for Saturday 26 July, in a duo with the guitarist Peo Alfonsi .
The now classic event on the Gran Cono del Vesuvio – among the most anticipated shows of the musical summer in Campania – sees on stage this year a true hero of the six strings. A prolific composer who ranges from jazz to world music, from fusion to rock, with over 10 million albums sold, four gold records, two platinum records and numerous Grammy nominations.
A musician acclaimed all over the world who has collected over 30 albums as a leader and collaborated with great artists in different fields. Among the many, the supergroup Return to Forever of Chick Corea , the famous trio of acoustic guitars with John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucia or the trio Rite of Strings with bassist Stanley Clarke and violinist Jean-Luc Ponty . But also meetings with names of the caliber of Frank Zappa, Jimmy Page, Stevie Wonder, Luciano Pavarotti, Paul Simon, Phil Collins, Santana, Steve Winwood, Herbie Hancock, just to name a few.
Born in New Jersey to a family of Italian origins (from Cerreto Sannita), Al Di Meola is undoubtedly one of the most influential guitarists on the contemporary scene. His extraordinary technique, both with the acoustic and electric guitar, has given him a regal status not only among enthusiasts of the instrument.
For this evocative concert on Vesuvius, at an altitude of 1200 meters, Al Di Meola with Peo Alfonsi will give life to a surprising acoustic set, with a setlist that includes his classics, the latest productions, Latin and Mediterranean sounds and some surprises linked to his love for the city of Naples. A concert that will exalt his complex syncopated rhythms, combined with lyrical melodies and sophisticated harmonies, at the center of his music for over forty years.
The show on the crater of Vesuvius is a unique experience and the concert represents the central part . For this reason the public is asked to observe some fundamental rules, in order to fully experience this emotional experience. The meeting is at 4:30 pm at the 1,000 quota square of Ercolano, where there are refreshment points. From the square , we go up on foot in small groups accompanied by volcanological guides , along a series of extraordinarily panoramic hairpin bends that lead to the edge of the crater. Once we reach the top, we watch the concert sitting on the ground on cushions. The musicians will play until sunset . At the end of the concert, we return to the square, always accompanied by volcanological guides.
