Rescue operations continue unabated in the province of Sondrio , which was hit hard yesterday afternoon, June 30, by a violent wave of bad weather that particularly affected the Valdisotto area.
Following the landslides and floods, fifty people were evacuated from the hamlets of Tola and Aquilone . Over fifty firefighters are currently working on site with twenty-four vehicles, including special vehicles from the GOS (Special Operations Group) unit equipped with excavators and earthmoving equipment.
Several landslides have caused disruption to local traffic and damage to residential buildings and factories. The Local Command Unit (LCU) has been set up to coordinate rescue efforts on site. In support of the Sondrio teams , reinforcements from the provincial commands of Lecco , Como , Brescia and Bergamo intervened. A technical officer from the Lecco command is also present to support the coordination of rescue operations.
The bad weather also hit the Varese area by accident. In the late afternoon of Monday several trees fell between Gorla Minore and Gorla Maggiore , due to a strong storm: the plants were removed from the roads and the traffic was restored.
