The 2025 Premiolino to Luigi Manconi

The 2025 Premiolino to Luigi Manconi

The Premiolino , the oldest and most authoritative Italian award dedicated to information, now in its 65th edition, was assigned to Luigi Manconi , editorialist for Repubblica . Other winners include Paolo Giordano ( Corriere della Sera ), Anna Zafesova ( La Stampa ), Siegmund Ginzberg (Il Foglio ), Thomas Mackinson ( Il Fatto Quotidiano ) and Sabrina Giannini ( Rai 3). The jury of the award, supported by Pirelli , selected "six journalist-editorialists who have distinguished themselves for narrative quality, professional rigor and civil commitment".

The Premiolino jury has decided to honour the memory of Viktorija Roš?yna , the Ukrainian journalist barbarically tortured and killed for her reporting, with a special mention.

The winners of the Pirelli Prize for Schools 2025 are Gianna Fregonara and Orsola Riva ( Corriere della Sera) . "In a time of short memory, growing indifference and dark horizons - says Chiara Beria of Argentine , president of the jury - reaching the 65th edition of the Premiolino - based on the voluntary and passionate commitment of a jury composed, as the founders wanted, of journalists who have already won the prize and with the support of Pirelli since 2023 - is a very precious achievement. This year the jury wanted first of all to denounce the terrible price paid in 2024. A black year for peace and for information: never since the post-war period have so many journalists, victims on the front lines of conflict, especially in Ukraine and Gaza , lost their lives to bear witness to unspeakable atrocities. In particular, the jury turns its thoughts to the memory of Viktorija Roš?yna , the journalist of the newspaper Ukraïns'ka Pravda , tortured and killed in Enerhodar .

According to the Reporters without Borders press freedom ranking, "Italy has fallen from 46th to 49th place not only because of the grip of criminal organizations in some regions but also because of political snares and red tape. Not to mention the growing spread of fake news via social media . In this scenario, the jury wanted above all to reward articles, investigations, reports, and in-depth articles that help citizen-readers form opinions that are not preconceived or biased." "We are living in a time when it is essential to invest even more than in the past in schools, in continuous training, in tools that allow for an ever deeper understanding of changing realities. The meaning of the Pirelli Prize dedicated to quality information on school issues is precisely this," says Marco Tronchetti Provera , executive vice president of Pirelli.

The awards ceremony will be held in Milan , at the Piccolo Teatro Grassi , on September 29. During the evening, the prizes will be awarded to the winners, which include a cash prize and the traditional parchment of great artistic value designed by the artist Riccardo Manzi on the occasion of the first edition of the Award.

Founded in 1960 by a group of great names in Milanese journalism – including Luigi Barzini Jr , Enrico Emanuelli , Paolo Monelli , Indro Montanelli , Orio Vergani and Enzo Biagi – the Premiolino is today one of the most sought-after awards for those who practice information with integrity and critical spirit. The 2025 jury is composed of: Chiara Beria di Argentine (president), Piero Colaprico (vice-president), Giulio Anselmi , Antonio Calabrò , Francesco Costa , Ferruccio de Bortoli , Mattia Feltri, Milena Gabanelli , Enrico Mentana , Donata Righetti , Beppe Severgnini , Gian Antonio Stella , Benedetta Tobagi , Carlo Verdelli .
