Marisol Guerrero, inspired by nostalgia
Immersed in traditional engraving techniques, Marisol Guerrero , a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Guanajuato (UG), shared her impressions about her work and projects .
“I am always proposing from experience , it is nostalgia , understanding that the past constructs me, as a look to redefine things ,” he said when defining his work as an artist.
She has been a FONCA (National Fund for Culture and the Arts) fellow from 2017 to 2018 , and in 2023 she was a PECDA (Program to Stimulate Artistic Creation and Development) fellow.
He has also received recognition from the State Institute of Culture (IEC) , also receiving awards such as the Salón Verde Contemporáneo and the Federico Ramos Prize . Between 2023 and 2024 he participated with FEMSA in the catalogue produced by the BIENAL .
She is currently exhibiting in collective and individual exhibitions at the Museo del Pueblo in Guanajuato capital . She is participating with a textile piece of the artist's body measurements, where she develops two-dimensional waist looms that she finally reintegrates into engraving. As a solo artist, she presents "La Fortaleza" , a traditional graphic project where she explores and expands her barriers using other matrices.

She commented that traditional engraving techniques comprise various processes and that is where her interests come from, adding contemporary languages and at the same time experimenting with supports without being committed to a single technique .
“I like to think that boundaries can be blurred by using other materials and elements to configure what is traditionally engraving ,” he said.
He explained some of the techniques he uses to create his works, such as woodcut , dry lithography , which he has been using a lot lately, and metal engraving. He also indicated that one of his favorite processes is color printing, as it is a pictorial aspect that does not respond to the classic engraving.
The resident of San Miguel de Allende spoke about the Romanized idea of the artist, pointing out that the gender of the idea of the artist is related to the creative genius as a male figure , this with the recent appointment of women in art , dealing with that role of not feeling different from the rest of the people , rescuing the qualities and characteristics of their choice as a profession .
“I've reworked that Romanized definition of an artist. I now consider myself an artist , and I'm not just that, but many other things. I am an artist,” she said.

He described a little what it is like to be an artist, pointing out that it is no different than being a normal person, since they share thoughts, fears and doubts , highlighting the privilege he has allowed himself by entering and perceiving the world around the image and its colors .
“When people identify with what we do, it’s because we’re similar , because we connect with that sensitivity ,” he said.
Finally, he said that next August he will have a collective exhibition at the Intersection Gallery in the La Aurora Factory , a renowned space in San Miguel de Allende.
