Tania Libertad celebrates 45 years of song, love, and freedom in Mexico.

Tania Libertad celebrates 45 years of song, love, and freedom in Mexico.

The story of Tania Libertad is also the story of Latin American song. Born in Peru, but adopted by Mexico more than four decades ago , this artist has established herself as one of the most emblematic and essential voices of bolero, ballad, and trova. Her name is synonymous with sensitivity, commitment, and a talent that transcends borders and generations.

This year, 2025, Tania Libertad celebrates 45 years of career in Mexico, the country that welcomed her and saw her grow as an artist, and to which she has given some of the most memorable performances of Spanish-language popular music. With more than 40 albums recorded, multiple international awards, and critical and popular acclaim, the singer remains true to her essence: singing with her soul.

As part of these celebrations, the singer will offer a special concert in Guadalajara, at the iconic Dianá Theater , where she will revisit the greatest moments of her career, pay tribute to her influences, and share new emotions with the audience from the stage.

"The best decision of my life, without a doubt, was coming to live in Mexico," shares the great Tania Libertad, in an interview with EL INFORMADOR . "But I came with a specific project. I started singing, I was singing for about six years in a cultural project, in which I gave two concerts a day in schools, prisons, hospitals, and public squares. And I was very happy. I wanted to stay there forever, but I was surprised by the success of my first bolero album. That's where a career began that has been very beautiful for me, honestly. And I knew I was going to stay here."

"I came from being a very popular singer in Peru. I wasn't a music television host, I didn't have number-one albums or anything like that, and I didn't like that situation. I didn't like popularity. I've never been able to cope with all of that. That's why, when people talk to me about my career and success, I prefer to talk about trajectory. I prefer to talk about recognition for musical achievements. I wasn't looking for success, or for fortune, or anything like that. And it just came to me , well, it just came to me ."

A legend of Latin America

Throughout her career, Tania Libertad has masterfully navigated diverse genres: from the classic bolero, which she sings with soul and respect, to the Latin American trova, which she performs with conviction and poetry; from the romantic ballad, which brings her closer to diverse audiences, to the Afro-Peruvian repertoire that revives her roots . Her voice has brought to life the lyrics of authors such as Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, Armando Manzanero, Chabuca Granda, and Joaquín Sabina , and she has shared the stage with figures such as Plácido Domingo, Joan Manuel Serrat, and Mercedes Sosa.

But beyond her musical versatility, Libertad has also been an artist committed to social and political causes, becoming an emblematic figure of Latin American-inspired singing. Her name is, literally, an artistic manifesto.

"It's incredible to have been able to be part of a great moment in Latin America since I started singing and then, already in college, to be part of a movement like the one that emerged with the new song and the testimonial song. So many names have changed that I don't really like labels. These types of musical genres never die and connect with very deep and beautiful roots."

Tania Libertad will celebrate her 45th birthday in Mexico at the Diana Theater this Friday, October 17th, at 9 p.m. Tickets start at 488 pesos at the auditorium box office and Ticketmaster.
