Olsztyn to modernize football stadium. New tender launched

- I promised you that I would not let go of the Municipal Stadium and, as promised, we have just announced another tender for the design and reconstruction of the eastern stand. This is another step that brings us closer to the modernization of the stadium in the City of Olsztyn! – writes Robert Szewczyk, the mayor of Olsztyn on the city's website.

After analysing previous offers, we have modified the scope of work to maximise the use of available funds. A covered stand for 4,500 fans will still be built, but we have decided against, among other things, demolishing the southern stand and building a car park in its place, which will allow the investment to be better matched to the budget.

At the same time, he points out that the previous tender ended with an offer of PLN 67 million, with PLN 30 million in funding, which significantly exceeded the city hall's capabilities (in 2023, Olsztyn received funding for this purpose from the Polish Deal Government Fund).

- That is why we made the difficult but necessary decision to cancel it and find a new solution. Now we are giving ourselves a real chance to select a contractor and start work - says the mayor of Olsztyn, Robert Szewczyk.

He also adds that the reconstruction of the city stadium is very important to the city authorities, which is why they are constantly working to make it happen.

The scope of the investment includes primarily the demolition of the eastern stand and the construction of a new one in accordance with the design documentation. Additionally, modernization works are planned in other parts of the stadium, including hardening the surface for broadcast vehicles next to the western stand, dismantling the Olympic rings mast and securing it for the duration of the investment.

Also planned are the modernisation and expansion of the parking zone for referees and delegates, modernisation works in part of the north stand, demolition of the billboard pole at the east stand, securing and leaving for further use the existing lighting poles, and hardening of the area in front of the entrance to the east stand.

All construction work, including obtaining the necessary permits and reporting for acceptance, should be completed within 22 months of signing the contract with the contractor.

The reconstruction of the municipal stadium in Olsztyn is a long-awaited investment that will not only improve the comfort of fans, but also increase the attractiveness of the city's sports facilities. The modernized facility is to provide better conditions for athletes and enable the organization of events at a higher level.

However, there is no shortage of criticism regarding the concept of modernizing the old stadium, which residents are expressing in the comments to the president's post.
