They were supposed to vote on night prohibition. The draft resolution was taken down hours before the vote

• The night-time alcohol sales ban in Warsaw, which was to be discussed in February, was removed from the agenda, sparking controversy among councillors.
• The draft resolution gained the support of 80% of Warsaw residents, but the decision to introduce prohibition was delayed, probably due to the election campaign.
• Civic Coalition councillors explain the delay by the need to conduct additional consultations, and the decision on the ban may only be made in the autumn.

The idea of ​​a night prohibition met with broad public support – as many as 80.78% of participants in public consultations expressed their approval for the ban. In other cities, such as Kraków and Poznań, similar resolutions brought positive effects, such as a decrease in crime or a decrease in night-time disturbances.

In turn, the Civic Coalition councillors explain their actions by the need to conduct additional consultations and obtain the opinion of the security committee and the economic development committee. The head of the Civic Coalition club, Jarosław Szostakowski, emphasises in an interview with Super Ekspress that the resolution is controversial and requires a more detailed discussion.

This is a difficult resolution, it gives rise to many disputes and controversies. This is a decision at the interface of the economy and security issues. We decided that before the discussion at the session we should first obtain the opinions of the security and economic development committee, and only then the matter would return to the social affairs committee. The same applies to the draft resolution prepared by the city hall.

When asked about the future of the project, he was unable to answer precisely, suggesting that the decision to introduce a ban on the sale of alcohol may only be made in the autumn.
