Carlos Barbosa, former president of Paços de Ferreira, has died.

Former Paços de Ferreira president Carlos Barbosa, who led the club between 2010 and 2014, died this Sunday at the age of 61, the Portuguese Football League II club announced.

"Paços de Ferreira Football Club expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Carlos Barbosa, former president of our club. A remarkable figure in the club's recent history and an example of dedication to sports and the Paços de Ferreira community," reads the statement released by the 'beavers' on their official website.

The former manager led the Paços de Ferreira side between 2010 and 2014 and “was responsible for memorable achievements that elevated the name of Paços de Ferreira at a national and international level”, such as the historic third place in the I Liga, guaranteeing access to the Champions League for the first time, “an achievement that remains one of the greatest landmarks in the club's history”.

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) published a note of condolence for Carlos Barbosa, “deeply” lamenting the death of the former president of Paços de Ferreira, who “will forever be linked to the club’s history”.

The Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) also expressed its “deep regret at the death of a leader close to the community and committed to the development of Portuguese football”.
