Feast promises a journey through several geographies

The sound geographies of the 16th edition of Festim - Intermunicipal Festival of World Music are varied - from June 20th to July 10th, the Águeda association d'Orfeu invites you on a journey through the sounds of Senegal, Brazil, Iran and South Africa. The concerts will take place in the municipalities of Águeda, Albergaria-a-Velha, Estarreja and Ílhavo. The Senegalese Momi Maiga, in a quartet format, is the first proposal on the programme, performing on 20 June at the Águeda Arts Centre and the following day at the Alba Cinema Theatre in Albergaria-a-Velha. The following weekend is a double event: long-awaited at the Festim, Barbatuques (Brazil), a “reference in body and vocal music”, will be coming to the region for concerts at the Fábrica das Ideias in Gafanha da Nazaré, in Ílhavo, on 27 June and at the Cine-Teatro in Estarreja the following day. Composer, singer and cellist Ana Carla Maza arrives from Cuba to present her album “Caribe” at the Cine-Teatro de Estarreja on June 27. On June 28, the Fábrica das Ideias da Gafanha da Nazaré will host the transcontinental project Constantinople (Iran/Canada/Senegal), which will present “Traversées”, described as “a poetic encounter between strings and voice”. On July 3rd, at Quinta do Torreão, in Albergaria-a-Velha, the party will be held to the sound of Chilean band Calle Mambo. And, to end, on July 11th, BCUC, from South Africa, will perform at Largo 1.º de Maio, in Águeda. Tickets for the concerts are available at festim.pt. Festim is an initiative of d'Orfeu with the four partner municipalities and supported by the Directorate-General for the Arts.
