More than 65,700 visitors counted last year alone

More than 65,700 visitors counted last year alone
“Visitor numbers continue to grow year after year. And in 2025, the first four months have already broken the records of 2024, a record year for visitors,” Ribau Esteves told us.

Judging by the latest statements made by the Aveiro mayor, the Aveiro/Santa Joana Museum “is in good shape and is highly recommended”. According to Ribau Esteves, this museum facility in the city, which in the distant past was a convent and also a school, has changed a lot and for the better when it came under municipal control almost a decade ago. In fact, on 1 August they will celebrate ten years since the start of its management by the Aveiro City Council and, consequently, this change for the better. And they will do so “with a surprise that has strong symbolism”, as the politician told our newspaper, without “discussing” what they will actually do.

City council management with a “very positive” balance According to the mayor, the city council management “brought the museum to be an active part of the reality of the city’s life and that of its citizens, and the results are very positive”. “Today - as he assured Diário de Aveiro - we have a museum with an intense and valuable programme, with high-value art exhibitions and the regular presence of renowned entities at a national level, such as the Serralves Foundation”, he assured, adding: “A museum with greater capacity to engage citizens, with intergenerational and highly diverse programmes”. And the result is there for all to see: “The number of visitors continues to grow year after year. And, in 2025, the first four months of the year have already broken the records of 2024, a record year for visitors”, with 65,792.
