The festival began with the opening of the Santa Joana Museum

The festival began with the opening of the Santa Joana Museum
As part of the festivities in honour of Santa Joana Princesa, patron saint of Aveiro, a solemn ceremony took place yesterday at 9.15 am in the Church of Jesus, in the Aveiro/Santa Joana Museum.

The event was marked by profound spiritual and cultural significance, bringing the community together around the inspiring figure of the Holy Princess. The ceremony began with the opening of the Convent of Jesus for worship, allowing those present to visit the Monumental Circuit of Santa Joana, a route that highlights the historical and religious importance of the patron saint of Aveiro. This solemn moment was also enriched by the Commitment of the “Knights” and “Handmaids” of Santa Joana, as well as the admission of new “Brothers” to the Royal Brotherhood of Santa Joana Princesa, in a symbolic gesture that strengthens the bonds of unity and continuity between generations.

One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony was the speech by Nuno Gonçalo da Paula, the Royal Brotherhood of Saint Joan the Princess, who clearly and emotionally highlighted the deeper purpose of the initiative. “The secular Brotherhood of Saint Joan the Princess aims to transmit the human and spiritual values that were once passed on to us by a Princess who gave up all her material possessions and dedicated herself to serving God and the poor,” the Brotherhood Director highlighted, leaving a final message dedicated to today’s society and its difficulties. “When society increasingly asks us for examples, let us live the example of our Patroness in all her unique experience of Love and service to others,” he concluded.

During the ceremony, more than 15 new and young members were officially integrated into the Brotherhood, making a commitment to continue the spiritual and community legacy of Saint Joan. It is worth noting that on this Monday, the Convent of Jesus, where the Aveiro/Santa Joana Museum is located, was open for worship and visits to the Monumental Circuit dedicated to Saint Joan, offering everyone the opportunity to learn more about her legacy and history.
