Summer is a period that is accompanied not only by sun and fruits, but also by various poisonings and infections. In an interview with Krasnodarskie Izvestia, doctor Marina Mysyshina spoke about the most dangerous diseases in the summer.
As the publication's interlocutor noted, acute intestinal and rotavirus infections, which can be described as "dirty hand diseases", are most common in hot weather. The doctor called hand washing before eating the most important rule during this period, and this especially applies to children, since the same rotavirus most often occurs in them due to the natural susceptibility of the young body to infection. The specialist also recommends washing vegetables and fruits before eating, as well as drinking bottled or boiled water.
Another summer danger, according to Mysyshina, is intoxication with botulism, staphylococcus or other toxins of bacterial origin. She drew attention to the fact that even if there are few bacteria in the product, their dangerous toxins can not only cause serious harm to health, but also in some cases lead to death.
The doctor pointed out that botulism can be found in canned food, sausages and other meat products, and if in canned food it is given away by the presence of a swollen lid, then in sausage it is almost impossible to determine, so sausage products should be bought in good stores and from well-known manufacturers. The main signs of the development of this disease include muscle weakness, dry mouth, fog before the eyes, double vision, and the patient develops a hard lump in the throat, pupils dilate, facial contractions almost completely disappear, and breathing becomes shallow, the interlocutor of the publication warned.
The specialist urges not to forget about staphylococcus, a bacterium that especially loves sweets, and infection with it usually occurs through confectionery. Mysyshina emphasized that a cook can be a carrier of staphylococcus and contaminate products during preparation. If after eating a cake you feel chills, muscle pain, a sharp rise in temperature, and also a headache, vomiting or diarrhea appear, then the cause may be staphylococcus toxin, and in this case it is necessary to immediately consult a doctor, the interlocutor of the publication added.
