Rospotrebnadzor experts reported on the beneficial properties of persimmons, which contain provitamin A, vitamins B, C, and P. According to the agency, these substances protect cells from damage, slow the aging process, and stimulate the immune system, increasing the body's resistance to viral and bacterial infections.
The press service noted that persimmon's primary health benefits stem from its high content of beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant with immune-boosting properties. The fruit is also rich in trace elements: potassium, which helps eliminate excess fluid; magnesium, which improves nutrient absorption; iron, which helps with anemia; and iodine, which is essential for thyroid health.
Experts explained that ripe persimmons stimulate intestinal peristalsis thanks to their fiber, but also contain tannins, which impart an astringent taste. The agency recommended not overindulging in persimmons, especially when combined with high-protein foods, and also limiting their consumption in people with peptic ulcers, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, and diabetes.
When choosing persimmons, experts recommend looking for a bright orange color, firm texture, and smooth, undamaged skin. Dry, brown leaves indicate ripeness, while green leaves indicate immaturity.
