The responsibility of the writer

The responsibility of the writer

Literature, which integrates with nature and life, competes with time and carries time from yesterday to tomorrow.

The writer transcends time by showing the selected, distilled, aestheticized form of the life adventure, the holistic reality based on a reality.

This transfer involves the search for better lives.

Literature, which continues with a search, tries to open the curtains of humanity's yesterday and paves the way for the sparkles of tomorrow.

The method of approaching all works of our great critic Fethi Naci , who said that “the job of literature is not only about aesthetic function but also has a social moral aspect”, was “concerned about reflecting our age accurately” .

THE WORLD TODAY

We learn the past and present of life best from literature.

Literature has such a noble mission.

What does literature, which is charged with this task, see in today's world and how will it convey today's world to future times?

The picture we see in today's world is a frightening and hurtful one.

In the first half of the 20th century, we experienced two major world wars. The destruction, burning, killing, death camps, atomic bombs of these wars must not have been enough because in recent history, we have always experienced pain and destruction in the world. In the second half of the 20th century and in the 21st century, we experienced wars, we are experiencing them, and we have observed and are observing that the world has been turned into bomb fields.

We live in a polluted world. This is a world that has become a garbage dump, with its soil, mountains, plains, seas, skies, rivers, lakes, buildings, and streets polluted. People are also in this garbage dump and are polluted with their emotions, thoughts, dreams, and beliefs.

In a world where everything is consumed, where everything is bought and sold, where the value of everything is measured with money, where the market and money have been made the highest value, we see that values, culture, art, love, and affection are all consumed.

Seeing a life consumed with fanaticism, barbarity, blood, savagery, aggression, tyranny, massacres, wars and everything else added to these breaks the hearts of literary people and confuses them as well.

WRITING TODAY'S WORLD

The man of letters thinks: Can humanity, which maintains its civilization on blood, beautify the world with its hypocrisy?

When we look at the world today, where our lives are not filled with heartwarming images and consumption and war, we see that this shows the literary man how great the difficulties he has to overcome are and he answers “No” .

The frightening reality we are faced with is, unfortunately, knocking on our door as a legacy that humanity has brought from yesterday.

This reality also shows that, as the Native American proverb says, the future we borrow from our children is darkened.

The sadness that comes to a man of letters when he sees humanity bombing the foundations of its own existence is terrible, and humanity did not deserve it. This bleeding reality that we are faced with centuries after a war that became epic in the Iliad is shameful.

A man of letters does not want to live with this shame. He wants to prevent war from being inevitable and the fate of humanity. This is the task that time has given to a man of letters. It is the most necessary duty imposed by life to contribute to the eradication of wars from the world with his most valuable weapon, literature.

The literary man must fulfill the duty that time has imposed on him by coming to terms with the bad lives of the past, by bravely revealing the mistakes of the present, and by being the caller of the search for a tomorrow purified from ugliness.

***

As a writer, in addition to my novels, the books I wrote to ease the burden of this difficult task, such as Nazi Camps, Forgetting Sivas, Umut İnsanda, 68 Generation, War and Literature, and my biography studies, are the products of my literary responsibility.
