Here’s Why Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom Skipped the 2025 Met Gala
Neither Katy Perry nor Orlando Bloom returned to the Met Gala tonight—an understandable decision given Perry’s current touring schedule. The pop star is on The Lifetimes Tour and is scheduled to perform in Houston, Texas, this Wednesday.
The missed appearance comes just weeks after Perry made headlines for her journey to space as part of Blue Origin’s historic all-female mission. The singer dedicated the trip to her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. “Daisies are common flowers, but they grow through every condition,” she said.
In ELLE’s April digital cover story ahead of the launch, Perry further reflected on the mission’s meaning: “I’m flying for my daughter, Daisy, to inspire her to never have limits on her dreams and show her that any type of person can reach their dreams—no matter your background, your ethnicity, your economic situation, or your education level.” She added: “She’s already such a big dreamer and she’s only four. But also to inspire a whole new generation and make space and science glam.”
The couple, who got engaged in 2019 and welcomed Daisy in 2020, has kept much of their relationship out of the spotlight in recent years, though Bloom did come out to support Perry ahead of her flight to space, along with Daisy.
Perry, of course, is no stranger to the Met Gala. Over the years, she’s delivered some of the most memorable looks in the event’s history. For 2019’s “Camp: Notes on Fashion” theme, she transformed into a fully lit chandelier by Moschino’s Jeremy Scott, complete with a headpiece that doubled as a second tier of candles.
That same night, she changed into a full-body hamburger costume—sneakers and all—for an after-party.
The year prior, she arrived in gold chainmail and giant angel wings by Versace.
And in 2016, she embraced the “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology” theme with a black velvet Prada gown, leather gloves, and a Tamagotchi clipped to her belt. Bloom, who attended the gala the same year, also wore one of the nostalgic digital pets—though the couple didn’t walk the red carpet together, the coordinated accessory acted as a subtle link between their looks.
