Marvel, all the superheroes on newsstands with Repubblica

"If Marvel were a body, movies and cartoons would be the arms: comics, instead, would be the heart": this is what CB Cebulski, editor-in-chief of Marvel, said six years ago on Robinson . He meant that everything starts from there, from the illustrated stories. And then, only then, do these arrive at the movies, series, video games, toys.
So a superhero or a group of superheroes, especially if they have become icons of the imagination, can be the object of infinite variations . For example: can a good guy become bad? Maybe yes. And can the alter-ego (i.e. the human under the mask) be someone else? The answer is still yes: if the idea has the possibility of being developed well, anything can be done.
The new Repubblica series dedicated to Marvel Super Heroes tells the story of this transformation. It begins with I am Spider-Man. Spider-Verse (on newsstands with our newspaper at 8.90 plus the price of the daily newspaper) dedicating three volumes to each character or group of characters. The first issue surprises with an extraordinary comic strip. Remember Homer Simpson singing “Spider Pork?”. Good. The superhero-pig version of Spider-Man really exists. And in this comic strip, written by J. Michael Straczynski in 2007, the pig in the superhero suit enters into a crisis “crushed by existential boredom”. Why? Because he has run out of ideas, that is, he no longer has thought balloons, the ones that were once linked to the characters with bubbles that reached from their heads to the speech bubbles. Over time they have become captions that wander around the panels. And the scene in which we see him gather in his arms all the captions around him to throw them away is fantastically surreal. But it doesn't end there: a few pages later he is again the protagonist of a parody of Apocalypse Now.
There is also a version of Spider-Man set in 2099. As Marco Rizzo explains in one of the many introductions, "initially a project by Stan Lee, one of the fathers of Marvel, and comic book superstar John Byrne . Within a few years the project changed and took other paths". However, those who are still tied to the original Spider-Man will find it in the second volume of the series (on newsstands in a week, on May 23) also with that first adventure from 1962, signed by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko , which sees Peter Parker marginalized at school but interested in scientific subjects. He will go alone to an exhibition that promises experiments on radioactivity and it will be that experience that will change his destiny forever. And so, among such exciting and different comics, there will also be volumes dedicated to the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, the X-Men, Deadpool, Wolverine, Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and Daredevil. To get to know this wonderful and surprising world in depth.

On newsstands, weekly and at a cost of 8.90 euros per volume (in addition to the price of Repubblica ), the 30 issues of the Marvel Super Heroes series bring together the best stories of the most beloved comics characters from the famous “stable” made in the USA, illustrating their genesis, development and subsequent transformations by the most famous and talented artists. Three volumes are dedicated to each of the ten best-known superheroes. This page shows the release dates of the first issues dedicated to each character or group of characters.
