Olga Roriz returns to Aveiro with “O Salvado”

Olga Roriz returns to Aveiro with “O Salvado”
The stage of Teatro Aveirense hosts a performance that combines dance, theater and music, marked by reflection on time, memory and the unexpected humor of an artist with a career spanning half a century.

Tomorrow, at 9:30 p.m., the Main Hall of the Teatro Aveirense opens to welcome the latest creation by choreographer and performer Olga Roriz. Titled "The Salvation," this solo piece is the fruit of a journey of artistic development that spanned six residencies throughout 2024, on various stages nationwide and even in London. Now returning to Aveiro, the city where the seed of this project was sown and which is finally witnessing its full revelation. "In February 2024, I spent two weeks at Teatro Aveirense, on an artistic residency. It was the first step in a process that would only later take shape. The show hadn't even been planned yet," recalled Olga Roriz in an interview with Diário de Aveiro.

What remains after the storm? "O Salvado" is particularly special for the creator: it's her first solo work in 12 years. Although she has performed several solos throughout her career, Olga Roriz emphasizes that this show comes at a different time in her life. "The audience will be able to meet me, as a 70-year-old woman with a 50-year career, but not in an archival or memoir work. It's not about telling stories from my life. It's about me now, with the body and the time I carry, with humor, and with things that perhaps aren't expected of me," she reveals.

On stage, dance blends with theater, text, and music. The artist even surprises the audience right from the start. "I play electric guitar at the beginning, in a composition by Vítor Rua. It's something unexpected, which opens the way for a personal yet universal journey," she explains.
