Documents from the Hittite period were found in Kilis

According to excavation director Prof. Dr. Atilla Engin, Oylum Mound was an important administrative center in the Bronze Age.
Engin spoke about this year's excavations as follows:
"We carried out excavations in two important layers, particularly those belonging to the Late Bronze Age, beneath the Iron Age layers. We reached a monumental structure dating back to the Hittite period and the 13th century BC."
"We assess that this structure belonged to a Hittite ruler and we have uncovered a significant portion of it. Two Hittite tablets and numerous seal impressions belonging to Hittite rulers were found in this layer. This clearly demonstrates that the structure belonged to a Hittite ruler."
Two Akkadian tablets were also found during the excavation. Philologists examined these tablets and determined they contained texts with economic and literary content.
Engin emphasized that Oylum Mound is an important center that will shed light on the cultural history of the region, and concluded his words as follows:
"In future excavations, we aim to fully uncover this monumental Hittite structure and obtain more written documents."
