Lights will be on in Sagalassos for night museums

The number of visitors to the ancient city, which was established on the slopes of Akdağ and whose first traces of settlement date back 12 thousand years, is increasing every day.

Visitors to the city will now have the opportunity to visit the ancient city at night. As part of this project, the ancient city's lights were turned on for the first time as a test.

The Burdur Governorship also announced that the ancient city of Sagalassos will be open to visitors at night starting next season.

While the aim is to increase the number of visitors even further with the night museum, the theatre, odeon, agora and monumental fountains, which come to life with special lights, will offer visitors an impressive atmosphere in the cool of the evening.

The lights came on for the first time

Prof. Dr. Peter Talloen, head of the Sagalassos Ancient City excavations and head of the Bilkent University Archaeology Department, told an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent that the lighting for the Upper Agora and the road is nearing completion.

Talloen stated that they turned on the lights of the ancient city for the first time and that night museum activities are planned to fully commence next season.

Talloen, noting that work is ongoing, said, "I think it will be finished next year. We're looking forward to seeing visitors then. The number of visitors is increasing every year. This makes us very happy. I hope we can invite even more visitors to Sagalassos with the night museum in the coming years."

Talloen emphasized that Sagalassos is a must-see Roman city, saying, "Last year, 115,000 people visited the ancient city. We expect a slight increase in the upcoming season. I expect the number of visitors this year to be around 120,000-125,000. With the opportunity to visit the ancient city at night, I think this number will be much higher."
