Egypt plans walkway between the Grand Museum and the Pyramids of Giza

On the eve of the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), scheduled for November 1, the country's Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, visited this Thursday (18) the tourist walkway that connects the institution to the Pyramids of Giza.
The construction is approximately 1.27 kilometers long, with widths ranging from 13.5 to 27.5 meters. The walkway begins at the GEM's main parking lot, then crosses the Fayoum Highway and continues directly to the Giza Plateau. The route was designed to preserve the cultural and visual identity of the region, allowing for pedestrian and electric transportation.
According to the Minister of Tourism and Antiquity, Sherif Fathy, "the walkway is part of the broader Egyptian effort to improve infrastructure around the country's main cultural heritage sites."
Spanning 500,000 square meters, the GEM will house the largest collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts in the world. The exhibition on Pharaoh Tutankhamun alone will feature approximately 5,000 artifacts, including 2,000 items never before shown to the public.
The museum's opening is among the most anticipated cultural events on the international calendar. It is estimated that the site will attract 5 million tourists annually.
