Australian Radio Station Surprised the World. They Hid That One of Their Presenters Is... AI

Sydney radio station CADA, owned by Australian Radio Network (ARN), has come under fire for hiding from its listeners the fact that one of its presenters was an artificial intelligence. For six months, no one realised they were listening to an AI-generated creation.

Sydney radio station CADA introduced a new presenter last year named Thy to its listeners. She was featured on a show created especially for her called Workdays with Thy . From Monday to Friday, for four hours, Thy presented music without arousing any suspicions. Until listeners began asking questions about the mysterious woman they knew only from radio.

As reported by The Oddity Central , listeners were suspicious of the fact that the journalist's name was not known, nor could any information about her previous work or other biographical details be found. In addition, listeners' vigilance increased after professional voice analysis showed that some phrases used by Thy sound identical every time she says them.

When the questions became too many to ignore, the radio station admitted that Thy was not a real person.

- No microphone, no studio, just code and vibe. It was an experiment by ARN and ElevenLabs to push the boundaries of what "live" means - wrote Fayed Thome, the project's creator, on his LinkedIN profile. The post was later deleted.

The revelation about Thy has outraged listeners , who have criticized ARN for its lack of transparency. Many believe it should have been made public straight away that the voice heard over the airwaves was generated by artificial intelligence. Listeners feel cheated, even though there are no laws in Australia banning the use of AI during radio broadcasts.

- Such possibilities are being tested by broadcasters around the world. While our tests yielded valuable information, they also strengthened our belief that the unique value of a real human personality is essential to creating truly compelling content - reads ARN's statement summarizing the experiment.

The company assures that it does not intend to replace people with artificial intelligence.
